Puddle Jumping

Easter Weekend Easter Weekend

Another beautiful spring day today, so we took advantage of the wonderful weather and got outdoors to take care of this and that around the yard. I have realised since owning a house that they are a ton of work, but keeping up with the gardening brings me a lot of joy, and I truly enjoy spending a lot of my time outdoors.

Easter Weekend

I moved a lot of lillies around to the side of the house from the back garden while Stuart, and my Mother and Brother-in-Law took Liam to the park to play. When they arrived home, Liam enjoyed splashing about in some puddles in front of the house.

The garden is starting to sprout, and already we have many lillies growing, and the tulips and daffodils are almost ready to bloom! I love spring, the new beginnings it brings to nature and the joy my garden brings to my life.

A Busy Weekend…

Scrapbooking

This past Thursday, I hosted a Creative Memories Scrapbooking party! I don’t know about everyone else who attended, but I had a really great time :-) I think it was a combination of getting together with some friends that I hadn’t seen in a while, exchanging stories about our kids and our busy lives, as well as doing something just for me that I absolutely LOVE! Scrapbooking has been a passion of mine for many years now. It began when I went to a “Crop Night” with a co-worker of my husbands, just to see what this new craze was all about. That evening, I made my first official scrapbook page layout, featuring honeymoon snapshots from Nova Scotia. Since then, I have collected massive quantities of scrapbooking “stuff” especially stickers! Stuart thinks it is cute that I get to re-live my childhood by getting out my “sticker books” to play with once in a while. While I am not a compulsive hoarder of any one thing, I would have to say that my collection of stickers might make one wonder…

Friday, we left Guelph, and headed up North for an overnight stay with family in the Owen Sound area. I really enjoyed seeing both of my Grandmothers, Aunts and Uncles, and of course my parents, and my Brother, Michael. My Mom devised a fun way to hand out Easter treats this year. She made up a wonderful basket full of goodies, and we played a card game, and as each person was eliminated from the game, they got to choose a prize from the basket! Much more original than the traditional “hide the eggs” routine! I think I enjoyed it even more, as I got to choose a prize from the basket early on in the proceedings, and there was a lot of choice!

We arrived back in town this afternoon, having enjoyed a beautiful drive in the sunshine with our sleeping son in the back seat, which allowed us to chat while we drove.  We caught up on news, exchanged ideas, and just enjoyed each other’s company.
Tomorrow, it’s rest and relaxation here at our own home (throw in a bit of cooking of course, and perhaps some visitors…) I can’t think of a better way to spend Easter Weekend.

To top off a wonderful weekend, on Monday we have our first ultrasound.  This is early to be having an ultrasound, as they don’t normally do one until around 20 weeks, but we are still a little uncertain on the timing, and not *exactly* sure how old baby is.  In any case, I am really looking forward to getting a sneak peek at this new little person.  Things sure seem to be moving right along!

Vacuuming 101

Noonoo

I truly believe that toddlers are the reason that mankind invented the vacuum!

Today was one of those days that I wish I could just “re-do.” Liam is getting more and more adventuresome and curious each day, and made his “Dennis the Menace” debut today by getting into everything possible, rattling my nerves, keeping me hopping, and trying my patience as a still relatively new Mom.

It all began this morning with a huge crash, when he pulled an entire box of beads to the floor, scattering the tiny fragments of glass in all directions. Incidentally, minutes earlier, I had just finished sorting through the beads, removing the broken ones. I brought the vacuum out after picking up most of the beads (and pieces of new broken ones) to ensure that I got any sharp bits remaining on the floor.

Later, as I was loading the dishwasher, I gave Liam a wire whisk to amuse himself with. No sooner had I turned around to complete my chore, Liam had taken the implement, and begun to dig through the dirt of one of my large floor plants. For the second time today, the vacuum made its appearance.

In a household with three resident cats, Liam’s curiousity often gets the better of him, and he likes to investigate our feline companions close-up. Two out of three are *fairly* good natured about his antics, mind you there has been the occasional scratch. Our oldest cat Beatrice, is however not such a good sport. Liam had cornered her in the Livingroom, and when I heard hissing, I came dashing in just in time to spare his little hands from a potential attack! He was trying to feed her a cookie…Where is that vacuum again?

I thought that Liam had gotten into just about everything possible, until the very end of the day when he discovered how much fun it is to shred toilet paper all over the bathroom floor. I was again, glad that the vacuum was near-by…

Days like today, I am so relieved to see my husband walk through the front door. Not that I am not normally happy with his arrival home, but days like today, I feel the need for extra “back-up” reinforcements!

The vacuum still sits in the hall, waiting to be put back into the garage. I know it will be out again tomorrow, as more cookies are crumbled, there are more spills and shreds of this and that on the floors. Maybe I should just incorporate it into part of our livingroom furniture…it would make an intersting coffee table afterall, and if not the most attractive of coffee tables, at least a very functional one in our house!

Cookies: The Food of Friendship

Cookies

After a quick excursion today, I arrived home tired and hungry. My mind was racing about the many things I hoped to accomplish today, as I knew inside vacuuming, dusting, meal preparations and many other tasks awaited me. From the window of my car, I could see that there was a note hanging on my front door. I wondered if the courier had come with notification of a parcel I needed to go and collect from the postal outlet, or if perhaps a neighbour had left something. As I opened the door, I took the note down, and found it was a booklet full of recipes for kids activities, and fun foods to intice fussy toddlers. Below the booklet, hanging from the door knob, was a wonderful little bag of cookies! I was delighted to find these treasures, and wondered who they were from…

I have since e-mailed the “clever cookie” who left this little surprise for me, to thank her for her thoughtful gesture of friendship! Isn’t it funny how small gestures can be the biggest and happiest highlight of your day?

This Little “Bun” is worth a Read

Bun

I am re-reading Kaz Cooke’s hilarious pregnancy book entitled “A Bun in the Oven: The Real Guide to Pregnancy” and while I have mentioned this author on my blog before, I feel it is worth repeating just how great her books are. I am reading through the chapters, keeping track of the progress of my pregnancy week-by-week and finding it even more funny than the last time I read it. Every week, I find it amusing to find out exactly which fruit I will be told my baby is currently the size of. This week, the little bambino is the size of a lime…ole!

If you or someone you know is pregnant, I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book. Especially for the last trimester, when nothing seems funny anymore, the book motivates you to think ahead, and adds in a humourous take on the final unpleasant stages of pregnancy, and childbirth.
