The town of Wiarton Ontario really is a lovely little spot. I would really enjoy living there, or perhaps one day, retire there. My parents officially live in Wiarton, although they are actually situated quite a distance from the town itself.
I took this photo recently while visiting my parents. A beautiful little harbour isn’t it?
I am trying to get to water as much as possible this summer. That being said, Stuart and I really are “home-bodies” so the thought of doing much travelling is slightly overwhelming, especially with such young children. However, since Guelph is “missing the boat” (hehe!) in the water department, there is really no choice but to travel to find a body of water. Liam’s little splash pool in the back yard isn’t quite cutting it! Luckily, I was raised on Georgian Bay, so I am familiar with the Owen Sound area, and its most beautiful feature, the Bay! I’d love to go more north to explore the shores of Lake Superior one day. I have heard that there are few spots in our province which rival it’s beauty. One day perhaps…for now, we’ll stick to what we know.
To water!

Talk about an intimidating stare…I don’t think anyone could outlast this fellow in a staring contest!
He was none-the-less very beautiful! Owls are such amazing creatures, they fly silently, they are mysterious and somewhat spooky, yet incredibly majestic. How awesome is nature?!?
While agents were showing our house the other night, we went over to the local library. I came across this book that I remember having as a child. I borrowed a copy (for Liam of course!) and have read it and re-read it, enjoying it just as much as I did years ago.
I won’t write up a book review on it, but I do think it is a really cute little story with an important message! Basically, the dragon in the story grows bigger and bigger until finally he is noticed.
In a simplistic way, it reminds me of words of wisdom that I have heard and learned from some of the women in my life. Often, life presents situations that you *need* to see or hear, even if you are not willing to be open to them. At first, they are nudges, and then, they become stronger. If you are not open to them, sometimes you are eventually “broad-sided.”
And while there have been no recent dragon sightings in our home, I am trying to listen to the nudges in my life, opening myself to possibilities and trying to see situations as having many possible positive outcomes despite much uncertainty. I never have been good at having faith that things will work our for the best, but I am learning to trust that this is indeed true.
Sleep? If only!
Actually, we had a not too bad night last night. Gwyneth is following in the footsteps of her big brother, and seems to have her days and nights confused. She has been waking up often for feedings at night, and I was only getting about two hours of sleep until last night, when she only woke every two hours, so I got a much better nights rest.
Day 5, and as the dust is starting to settle in our household, we are completely over the moon with our new daughter. Liam, who thinks she is wonderful, constantly needs to know where she is, and enjoys showing his affection for her. We have to be watchful however, as there seems to be a fine line between “kisses” and “head-butts.”
This week, Stuart goes back to work. I’m not sure which one of us is more sad. I will miss the help, but most of all I will miss the family time we have shared this past week.
Speaking with a health nurse two days after Gwyneth was born, she told me “when you have your second child, you leave home for the hospital as a couple with a baby, and return home as a family.”
What a wonderful feeling family is…
This picture was taken a few days ago before the cold tempertures and snow came and shocked us all into a state of denial and disbelief that winter had arrived. Indeed, in the upcoming forecast, they are calling for colder temperatures and slightly more winter-like conditions. Last night, Stuart said to me that we got “cheated” out of fall. I tend to agree. This season is so short to begin with, and due to the high winds we’ve experienced in the past 48 hours, most of the beautiful colour has left the trees surrounding us.
This winter will be a very different one. I will be the mother of two children. Double the responsibility, twice as many diapers, feedings, and twice the toys that now clutter my home. Yet at the same time, double the joy in my life.
There is an expression “go where the wind takes you.” I am excited to see exactly what that place looks like.
