A friend told me about a great way to re-use household items that you no longer need, and I am finding it a great way to de-clutter our home before our big move in April. Communities all over the place have Free-Cycle groups. Here’s how they work:
First, you find stuff in your house that you no longer need. I have found new homes for many things from knick-knacks and clothing and craft supplies to furniture. There’s always someone in need somewhere in your community.
Next, you go on your local Free-Cycle Network, and offer items that you may need to get rid of, or post items that you might be looking for.
Then people e-mail you and tell you if they are interested in your items, and you mutually agree on what time they will come to pick them up! I usually just go on a first come first served basis.
Easy as Pie!
I love the feeling of de-cluttering while helping out the community as well. Churches, local organizations as well as individual households may all benefit from this system, plus it saves a whole bunch of stuff from ending up in landfill sites and saves money too. I have seen many other Moms posting wanted items and items they no longer need. Fantastic!
The local Free-Cycle Network is great. Check out Free-Cycle in your neck of the woods!
