Getting There

Tape Measure

Well, I am in the home-stretch now folks! For those of you who don’t know, or know me personally, or don’t have to endure hours of endless chatter about the merits of the wonderful program called Weight Watchers, I would like to tell you that I am almost at goal! I have (since the birth of my daughter) lost almost 50 pounds, and I feel great! For the first time in years, I am within a healthy weight range for my height, I feel terrific, and my clothes fit nicely again :-) I must admit, I am quite proud of me!

To celebrate my achievement, I first thought of doing something radical, like getting a tattoo, but since that really isn’t me anymore (I used to be into piercings and gave that up a loooooong time ago!) I have decided for the slightly less impressive, but way more sensible promise of a pedicure, and posting of regular weight-loss recipes right here on the ol’ blog-a-roo! Maybe I’ll get a couple new pairs of jeans or something as well! But mostly, I would like to devote more of my time writing about food, to writing about healthy food! There are so many wonderful and healthy recipes being shared all over the place, and my promise to is track em’ down, and post em’ right here!

10 pounds to go before I am at my final goal weight! Yeah! I have made a promise to myself, and to my family that I will not gain back the weight I have lost. I intend to keep it off for life. What a wonderful empowering feeling!

I’m a loser too!

Yes, it’s true. I am a loser. In a really good way though!

Since shortly after Christmas I have begun really working at the weight loss, and so far, I have lost 8 pounds! I am pretty proud of myself as I am doing the “solo weight-watchers” method. In other words, I am too cheap to pay the start up fees and weekly costs, and I am following the WW program indepentently. I have made rather small modifications to my eating habits and am finding even these minor changes are very effective. I am eating way more green stuff (veggies), not as much white stuff (bread, rice, sugar) drinking tons of water, not eating in the evening, and just being more cautious. While the weather was good, we were also getting outside a lot for walks.

I will admit, that there have been a few “treats” especially McDonalds hamburgers consumed in the past few weeks however. Yes, you are reading this right. I suppose it must be something to do with nursing and something nutritionally, perhaps iron that I am missing in my diet, as I have not eaten red meat in ten years. I ate it a few times while pregnant, and am now a regular once again, at times, craving it like there’s no tomorrow. Stuart is worried that before long, I’ll be chasing down the deer out back of our house! :-D

I guess the most important thing I have learned in the past while “dieting” is that you have to remember to have treats so as not to feel deprived. I still frequent Tim Hortons, but now, instead of having a whole donut, I just have a Tim Bit or two.

Anyhow, since it is that time of the year of newly made resolutions and all, I thought I would just broaden mine to simply living better, and taking care of me, so that I can keep up with my kids’ demands. This encompasses a whole list of ways I can be better to myself, but for the moment, my focus is on my overall health.

8 pounds less, and already, I am feeling great! I still have about 25 to go, and I know that I can and will do it!
