Parklife

One of the most wonderful things about being a mother is that you get to experience life through the eyes of your children. Seeing your child’s wonder at seemingly simple things makes you want to slow down, and examine them close-up.

This weekend, amidst the regular yucky “housework” and other not-so-fun tasks, we have taken Liam to two different parks in the area. The first, a local park called Nick’s Dragonfly Playground, which was created as a memorial to a Guelph youngster who died of Muscular Dystrophy. Liam had a fabulous time exploring these new surroundings.

Yesterday, to celebrate Canada Day, we took a trip up to Riverside Park. There were many exciting activities going on, including free carousel rides and a petting zoo. It brought tears to my eyes watching my husband and son riding the carousel. What a wonderful lasting memory…

Oh Canada!

Canadian Flag

As Canadians, I think we often take for granted the amazing country in which we live. Take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to live here, as you celebrate Canada’s 139th Birthday today. There are so many reasons I am proud to be a Canadian…here are five of mine:

1. Canada is a country so full of natural beauty. While I have only been fortunate enough to visit Quebec and Nova Scotia (and live in Ontario my whole life) the Canadian landscape provides some of the most captivating images imaginable in the whole world.

2. We enjoy freedom in so many areas of our lives. We are free to speak, dress and act as we choose. As a woman, I think this is particularily important.

3. We can safely raise our children, knowing they are getting a good education, and will have a promising future here.

Preschool

4. We enjoy a wide spectrum of weather conditions and are very adaptable! In a country where it can be incredibly hot, followed by a cold front with hail stones the size of marbles, one needs to be able to adapt. At least we get to take it all in, and experience every sort of weather imaginable!

5. Canada is such a multicultural country. Being surrounded by such a mixture of cultures enriches everyones life experience in that we are able to learn so much from each other.

Happy Canada Day!

Cat Nap

Rosie

I captured this snap shot this morning of one of our cats, Rosie, in Liam’s crib. At least it is getting used by *someone* in the household :-D

Garden of Earthly Delights?

Geranium

Well, it may not be as famous as the painting, but I do enjoy my garden. Things really are coming along so nicely this year, so much further ahead than usual…

While we were inside for most of the day today, enjoying the comforts of central air conditioning on this hot and humid day, Liam was testing out his new train set. Inspired by the awesome train set-up at our local Chapters store, we decided to buy Liam a new toy (actually, it has been quite a while since he got a new toy) He sure is enjoying this new pass time.

Liam’s First “Official” Haircut

First Haircut First Haircut

We “celebrated” our anniversary today by taking Liam to get his hair cut for the first time at the stylists. Wow, do things ever change once you have kids!
I think Liam did better than me throughout the process. He didn’t cry at all (come to think of it, neither did I!) and was only slightly annoyed at having his hair sprayed with water. After the procedure was finished, all I could think was “Where is my baby? This is a little boy!” His hair is indeed a lot shorter than I had anticipated/hoped and his beautiful little curls are now absent. However, I know he will be so much cooler for the summer, and as cliche as it sounds it “will grow back.”

Our Special Day ~ June 1st

Our Wedding Day

“I marry you because no matter what the question, we are each other’s answer.” ~ Peter McWilliams

“Love is a portion of the soul itself, and it is of the same nature as the celestial breathing of the atmosphere of paradise.” ~ Victor Hugo

“When one has once fully entered the realm of love, the world -no matter how imperfect- becomes rich and beautiful, it consists solely of opportunities for love.” ~ Soren Kierkegaard

~ To many, many more wonderful years with you Stuart.

Trying out the Pool

Today was unusually warm for this early in the summer, so we took advantage of the favorable conditions and filled Liam’s wading pool up with water and toys!  If this hot weather continues, I may just have to get right in there with him!

Graduation Gift Idea

Places

I received this wonderful children’s book as a graduation gift when I graduated from York University in 2000. Liam noticed it’s bright cover, and pulled it off the shelf the other day so we read it together. What a great book for all ages…
