Happy Mother’s Day!

Man, when I see a picture like this, it makes me thankful that I had my kids one at a time!

Mommy Cat

Remember to thank your Mom tomorrow for all of the wonderful things she has done for you throughout your life. I think it took me having children of my own to realise what a difficult job it truly is, and to understand some of the sacrifices that Mothers make daily for their children. Of course, my own children are still very young, and I am only just beginning to understand the scope of what Motherhood entails, but I can definitely say that it’s a job unlike any other!

But when it comes to knowing my own Mother, I think I know her pretty well and as adults, we have become good friends as well as Mother and Daughter. My Mom is such an insightful and empathic person. She is a good listener, a deep thinker and a problem solver. She is a spiritually connected person. She is a teacher by occupation and at heart. She is a writer. She is a helper, and she offers guidance , love and support. She is sympathetic and cares about her family and friends. She is all of these things to me and my husband, my brother and to her Grandchildren. She is wise, and she shares her knowledge and advice. She loves us unconditionally.

Please remember to thank your Mom tomorrow. After all, you wouldn’t be here without her, and if she’s anything like MY Mom, you will certainly be glad that she is YOUR Mom!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Ready…and Waiting!

I think it is high time I had this baby already! Not only do I want so much to meet her, but I am so tired of lugging my enormous self around (well, ok, I’m actually not that big) Anyhow, I have compiled a list of “Reasons You Know it is Time to Have Your Baby…”

You desperately miss your pre-pregnancy clothes, and find yourself hanging out in your closet just to be near them.

Bending over to pick up your toddlers toys is a near impossibility, and you find it easier to crawl around on all fours, picking up the mess (or better yet, just leave it there and hope you don’t trip!)

Tums are suddenly your best friend.

You haven’t seen your feet in many months, and can’t remember the last time you painted your toe nails.

Getting up any less than 8 times a night to pee seems like a restful sleep.

You have no problem explaining all of your bodily aches and pains, no matter how embarassing, to perfect strangers.

Getting close enough to the sink to do the dishes is a major challenge.

You have a tendency to um…forget…um…oh, nevermind!

Your underwear are so huge that they could be mistaken for a sail.

And…

You know it’s time to have your baby, when you can no longer fit your computer on your lap while posting from your bed!

Parklife

One of the most wonderful things about being a mother is that you get to experience life through the eyes of your children. Seeing your child’s wonder at seemingly simple things makes you want to slow down, and examine them close-up.

This weekend, amidst the regular yucky “housework” and other not-so-fun tasks, we have taken Liam to two different parks in the area. The first, a local park called Nick’s Dragonfly Playground, which was created as a memorial to a Guelph youngster who died of Muscular Dystrophy. Liam had a fabulous time exploring these new surroundings.

Yesterday, to celebrate Canada Day, we took a trip up to Riverside Park. There were many exciting activities going on, including free carousel rides and a petting zoo. It brought tears to my eyes watching my husband and son riding the carousel. What a wonderful lasting memory…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Geese

And I thought one baby was a lot of work!!!

Being a Mom myself now, makes me realise all of the sacrifices and hard work my own Mother endured raising my Brother Michael and I. I am so thankful to have her as my Mother and friend. She is such a kind, thoughtful person and has always been such an inspiration to me and others with her positive outlook on life, and helpful advice whenever it was needed.

Chocolate Popsicle Chocolate Popsicle

Speaking of being a Mom, Liam re-discovered popsicles yesterday…as you can see from the pictures, he certainly enjoyed them!

Today is Mother’s Day. I plan to be asolutely pampered, with breakfast in bed, followed by with a day at the spa, then I will finish the day with a meal personally prepared by world-class chef…uh, wait, no…that’s not *my* life! That’s my fantasy Mother’s Day!!! I think it will be a bit more low key than that. We’ll go to the garden centre, pick out a few new plants for the garden and just hang out and do some yard work…there’ll likely be a few diaper changes, maybe the odd temper tantrum (by my son…and who knows, maybe me as well!) and a lot of playtime with Liam.

Happy Mother’s Day to Mom’s everywhere!

If Only…

Money Tree

Sometimes, I really wish this motherhood business was a paying gig! Watching the local news last night, I was fascinated by one particular story about the financial “worth” of stay-at-home-mom’s. Between chauffeuring, cleaning, cooking, teaching and the seemingly countless other tasks motherhood entails, experts estimate that the average yearly salary for a full-time mother (if it was indeed a paying job) would be somewhere around $148,000 CAD per year…a salary comparable to a top-paid Advertising Executive, Marketing Director or a Judge!

Holy Cow…that kind of extra cash sure would come in handy!
