A few months ago, a colleague sent me this book to peruse, cook from and review. The first time I flipped through it’s pages, I instantly knew it was special. The photos are spectacular. The recipes are simple. The combination is a winner!
Cookbooks are for me, a passion. I love nothing more than to curl up with a good cookbook. I have an extensive collection which I group onto two shelves in my kitchen. One shelf holds the books that I use once in a while. These books are the occasional use ones with a favourite recipe or two in each. The other shelf is attached to my countertop, and holds the coveted ones. This book made “the cut” and sits proudly with my favourite “go-to” cookbooks for simple meal planning ideas.
To date, I have made about 6 recipes in total, though I could happily cook from it everyday! My two favourites thus far are Mediterranean Roast Beef and Vegetables and Thai Fish en Papillote. Two distinctively different dishes both with tremendous flavour, and very little work! I LOVE that! 🙂 I have also made a few of the salads and am eyeing some of the delicious pasta dishes which will certainly be made in future.
The book really covers everything. It has the basics like salads, delicious soups and mains grouped into type of meat, plenty of vegetarian fare as well as snacks and desserts. What I love about it, is that the recipes are all around sensible. The ingredients are fresh and available, and the recipes are delicious and appealing. Most of them seem quite acceptable for calorie and fat reduced diets, and they all give variations and extra tips.
Recently, my husband has felt inspired to learn to cook, and I suggested this book as a great resource for him. The recipes are written in a straight-forward way, are extremely easy to follow and the results are brilliant.
I would highly recommend Dieticians of Canada Cook as an all-around great go-go book for your kitchen! The only decision you’ll have to make, is what recipe you will try first!
