Happy Halloween!

Pretty in Pink

Gwyneth
I just noticed that in all the pictures I have posted of Gwyneth so far, she is wearing pink! What a great colour. Of course, when you have a boy first, you simply cannot wait to dress your little girl in the pinkest frilliest outfits available!
The outpouring of help and support from friends and loved ones has been overwhelming. I have rarely had to cook a meal since Gwyneth came home, thanks to the gifts of wonderful food. It is so awesome to feel such a sense of support and caring! Thanks to all for your help!

“Sleeping Beauty”

Gwyneth
Sleep? If only!
Actually, we had a not too bad night last night. Gwyneth is following in the footsteps of her big brother, and seems to have her days and nights confused. She has been waking up often for feedings at night, and I was only getting about two hours of sleep until last night, when she only woke every two hours, so I got a much better nights rest.
Day 5, and as the dust is starting to settle in our household, we are completely over the moon with our new daughter. Liam, who thinks she is wonderful, constantly needs to know where she is, and enjoys showing his affection for her. We have to be watchful however, as there seems to be a fine line between “kisses” and “head-butts.”
This week, Stuart goes back to work. I’m not sure which one of us is more sad. I will miss the help, but most of all I will miss the family time we have shared this past week.
Speaking with a health nurse two days after Gwyneth was born, she told me “when you have your second child, you leave home for the hospital as a couple with a baby, and return home as a family.”
What a wonderful feeling family is…

“Gwyneth Ivy Robertson”

Gwyneth

Our daughter is here! Gwyneth Ivy Robertson was born on Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 at 7:20 a.m. at the Guelph General Hospital. She weighed in at 7 pounds 14 ounces. We are thrilled to announce the safe arrival of our little beauty. Mom, Dad, Liam and Gwyneth are all doing well and resting at home…

Update

Well, things are well underway here!  My water broke at around 9 p.m. last night, in exactly the same way it did with Liam, and I am writing this post between contractions.  Looks like Baby’s birthday is going to be sometime today (October 17, 2006)

Funny how in any given family, there often seem to be multiple people with the same birthday.  My late Grandfather, Chester Smith was also born on this day.  I never got the chance to meet him, but from what my Mom and Grandmother tell me, he was a warm, kind man with a wonderful sense of humour.  I only hope our daughter has these same traits :-D

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers over the next few hours.  Exciting things are happening for our family!

Winds of Change

Walking
This picture was taken a few days ago before the cold tempertures and snow came and shocked us all into a state of denial and disbelief that winter had arrived. Indeed, in the upcoming forecast, they are calling for colder temperatures and slightly more winter-like conditions. Last night, Stuart said to me that we got “cheated” out of fall. I tend to agree. This season is so short to begin with, and due to the high winds we’ve experienced in the past 48 hours, most of the beautiful colour has left the trees surrounding us.
This winter will be a very different one. I will be the mother of two children. Double the responsibility, twice as many diapers, feedings, and twice the toys that now clutter my home. Yet at the same time, double the joy in my life.
There is an expression “go where the wind takes you.” I am excited to see exactly what that place looks like.

“Thankful”

Pumpkins with Shadows
I am thankful for so many things, but the following are among some of the most important to me. I will try to remember how blessed my life is this weekend, as we celebrate this wonderful time of the year.
Warm and caring friends and family who have surrounded me throughout my life, especially in recent tough times.
The wonderful selection of food we have, and plenty of it to nurture us at all times.
Our beautiful son, who I feel so blessed to have had, and our daughter-to-be who I cannot wait to meet, and their father Stuart, my best friend, who is such a kind and loving husband and dedicated father.
The beauty of nature, and the ability to enjoy it so close to home.
Moments shared with family, and the memories these create.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

The Best Ginger Cookie Recipe

I sampled these great little cookies recently at an open house, and they are wonderful (especially hot from the oven) I can’t give credit to the proper person for the recipe, as I am really not sure where it came from originally.

I always thought my Gramma made the best Ginger Cookies ever, but these ones give hers a run for their money! I am going to try the recipe this weekend. A great little fall treat! Serve with a glass of milk or hot apple cider. Yum!

Ginger Cookies

Melt 1/2 Cup Crisco in a pan, and let cool slightly

Add: 1 Cup White Sugar

1 Egg

1/2 Cup Molasses

2 Cups Flour

1 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Cinnamon

2-3 tsp. Ginger

1/2 tsp. Salt

Mix well. Chill in fridge for at least an hour, then roll into small balls and bake in a 375 oven for 8-10 minutes. Enjoy!
