Making Flavoured Cream Cheeses

Have you ever played with your food? I have! In fact, it’s what I do best. I love trying new ideas, and making new and interesting things in my kitchen. Recently, I thought I’d try making flavoured cream cheese, so I took 1 package of Cream Cheese (250g) and added in about 1 1/2 TSBP of black currant jam. Yum! A great tasting cream cheese spread for crackers, bagels or even on toast or a muffin.

Cream cheese seems to get a bad rap for being unhealthy, but if you look at the ingredients, really, it’s not all that bad, especially if you get the light variety which has a lot less fat.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, and try new things – that’s what makes cooking so much fun. You just never know what you might come up with! Why not make a veggie cream cheese, with finely chopped carrots, celery and spring onions, and your favorite fresh herbs like parsley and cilantro? Herbs and spices, sauces, condiments – just play around with them, you’ll be amazed at what you can do!
