Pets are on my mind today, and so I thought it only fitting that I should post a few recipes for our furred, feathered and finned friends! Well, maybe not finned…who makes fish treats?
Here are a collection of pet-friendly treat recipes sure to please the finickiest feline, the complicated canine and the craziest Cockatiel in your home!
Cat Treats
1 8oz. Can of Tuna in Oil
2 Cups Cornmeal
2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
3/4 Cup Water
2 Cups Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
Mix all ingredients together in large bowl, until well combined. Roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness, and cut into small shapes. Put on ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool, and store in an air-tight container.
Doggie Treats
1 Pound Turkey Meat (cooked)
1 Pound Pork Meat (cooked)
4 Slices of Bacon (cooked)
2 Eggs, beaten
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Cornmeal
Combine turkey, pork, bacon and eggs in food processor. Put into large bowl, and add in flour and cornmeal. Knead dough, until it is not sticky anymore. Spread on a lightly greased cookie sheet, and use a rolling pin to flatten out. Cut into 1 inch squares with a pizza cutter. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. Let cool. Store leftovers in air-tight container in fridge.
Bird Treats
Honey
Millet seed
A big bowl
Cookie Sheet
This is a sweet treat that all birds love. Put some millet seed in a large bowl. Add honey and mix with hands until the seeds are completely covered in honey but clumpy. Roll mixture into quarter size balls and flatten. (If you are a real bird lover you can put the mixture into candy molds.) Let the mixture sit over night, or if you can’t wait that long, put the candies on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 until completely hard.
Hi Catherine,
This is the first time I’ve seen your site, and so far I really like what I see!
Yours is the first recipe I’ve seen for pets that looks do-able.
With 3 fur-kids who bring such joy and hilarity on a daily basis, I’m picking up the cornmeal I need, and make them home-made treats. Thanks for posting!!
